I do not believe it is helpful for people to come into therapy and feel WORSE when they leave. This happens most often because people, (even many therapists), still believe that focusing on negativity (i.e., "processing problems") actually helps. Well, research on the human brain recently has made it clear that focusing on negativity just builds more negativity.
Research from the "science of happiness"
gives a more clear idea of what constitutes lasting happiness. There are now plenty of tools that therapists can use to help our clients eliminate old stressful negative patterns and replace them with new ones. This has been my life and study for many years now.
